1. Contestants MUST be 21 years of age on or before February 12th, 2025, to qualify and compete in any of our contests.
2. Anyone interested in competing must first qualify and sign up on a Wednesday night from February 12 – April 9 at Club 90. You may also qualify with KJ Big Sexxy at The Highlander during the qualifying period.
3. Any contestant who wins a 1st Place Cash Prize is NOT ELIGIBLE to complete for 2 years after winning. Contestants who win a 2nd Place or 3rd Place Cash Prizes are NOT ELIGIBLE to complete for 1 year after winning. Contestants who place 4th or 5th are NOT ELIGIBLE to compete for one contest after placing.
4. Persons who entertain ARE allowed to compete (i.e., band member, actor, etc.).
5. Contestants MAY NOT utilize ANY type of off-stage props (beer bottles, drinks, audience members, etc.) unless it’s clothing-related (such as a hat or worn as part of costume). Contestants may not leave the stage during their performance or throw any item into the audience. Dancing is fine as long as there isn't acrobatics or gynmatic moves. The stage is small and we wouldn't want anyone to incure injuries.
6. Contestants may use LEGALLY PURCHASED karaoke songs that are provided by our KJ. Minus tracks are not allowed due to licensing and technological issues that may arise.
7. Songs may not exceed 5 minutes. If a song exceeds 5 minutes, the song will fade out and we will move on to the next contestant in the lineup.
8. Contestants aren’t allowed to sing the same song as another contestant during the same round.
9. Contestants aren't allowed to repeat an artist and song across rounds. If you sing Amy Winehouse during one round, you can’t repeat the same song or artist in a different round.
10. Songs containing explicit lyrics are allowed with limitations; however, contestants are encouraged to choose songs that aren’t overly offensive to others. Vulgar sex acts and/or nudity are prohibited.
11. Contestants will sing ONE judged song each during Quarterfinals & (if advancing) Semi-Finals round. Contestants who advance to the Finals round will each sing ONE song, and the top 15 will sing their 2nd song. Both songs added together will determine the top 5 placement.
12. Contestants can sing ANY GENRE of song they choose. There will only be ONE OVERALL WINNER for 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th, and 5th placements.
13. Contestants, their family or associates are not allowed to have contact with a contest judge before or during any of the contests who relates to STAR90 EVENTS. Contact includes verbal conversations and handshakes. Judges will be clearly identified wearing a “JUDGE” badge. Breaks for judges during a contest shall be considered the same as time during a contestant performance and judges shall remain “off limits” for conversation or any other contact.
14. Contestants, their family or associates who exhibit offensive behavior during any portion of the contest will disqualify that contestant from future contests. Offensive behavior includes poor sportsmanship, bad manners, lack of decorum, harassment of judges and club staff. If the contestant, their family, or associates exhibit offensive behavior after the contestant has completed, even after the winners are announced, that contestant’s score will be nullified. If the contestant whose score has been nullified is a winning contestant, the next contestant in scoring position shall take their place.
15. The order in which each contestant competes shall be determined by random drawing.
17. Any attempt to change a song after a deadline and failure to submit a song before a deadline is grounds for disqualification, unless due to a technical difficulty outside of the contestant’s control which will be determined by the competition host.
18. Contestants are expected to arrive on time. Any contestant who doesn’t enter the stage within 30 seconds of their name being called is disqualified from competing.
19. Decisions from the judges are final. Arguing with the judges and host is not tolerated. Any contestant, family member or associate that argues with judges, or in any way shows poor sportsmanship may be disqualified from any future STAR90 EVENTS contests.
SCORING: Contestants will be scored using a 100-point system:
VOCAL PERFORMANCE(rhythm/pitch/phrasing): out of a possible 75 Points. This includes intonation and pitch, strength, and range of voice, staying in time with the music and the background vocals. Diction and enunciation of the words they are singing – can everyone understand what you are singing? Mic control - are you using the mic properly? Do you adjust the placement of the microphone to eliminate distortion and regulate your vocal volume? Breath Control - are you holding your notes long enough, do you have enough air to finish your notes, etc.? Artistry – do you sound exactly like the original artist, or did you add your own flair or take on the song?
STAGE PRESENCE (movement/confidence/command/attire): out of a possible 20 Points. This includes facial expression and body gestures, confidence, and relaxation on stage, engaging the audience, command of your stage during the performance. Judges are looking at everything. Costumes are NOT required; however, you should DRESS TO IMPRESS!
CROWD RESPONSE: out of a possible 5 Points. How well did the audiene and judges respond to your performance? Bring your friends and family to cheer you on and support the venue!
